The Great Canadian Dinner Party
There is a great Frenchman named Parmentier. He was the pharmacist in the French Army during the Seven Years' War and was imprisoned in 1760 by the Frederick the Great (who army incidentally ran on potatoes). While imprisoned, he survived on potatoes. On his release in 1763, he returned to France and tried to spread the potato as the culinary delicacy that is was. In an effort to further his cause, he hosted extravagant dinner parties; guests included Ben Franklin and Tom Jefferson, and eventually got the potato into the Royal Court.
In honour of this tradition, we have put together a Dinner Party in a box. It contains 1 kg of 5 varieties of organic potatoes, along with a potato narrative, and histories of each variety. The intent is for 5 people (or couples) persons to prepare 5 potato dishes. The host will issue to the dinner party guest(s), a potato variety with its history. It is up to them to decide on a dish in keeping with that history. During dinner, it is suggested that they will give the history of their potato variety, and their recipe.
This is your chance to sample some of the greatest potatoes we have. Each has been selected for its history, taste and appearance. As a collection, they will form the foundation to a memorable dinner party!
